The Learner Conductor course has been compiled to provide a starting point for those who show a keen interest in conducting.

The learner conductor is not expected to conduct a choir practice nor conduct the choir for divine service or even teach parts; these will be covered in a subsequent course. This course introduces the learner conductor to the essential elements of conducting at a very basic level. That is the execution of both simple and compound duple, triple and quadruple time effectively, basic rhythmic elements which should enable the learner to clap any rhythm presented in the repertoire of this course, as well as sight singing across the range of an octave.

Each of the ten lessons concludes with a practical and written assessment, followed by a final overall assessment. After the successful completion of this course the learner conductor should proceed to the next level which is a course for congregation choir conductors and assistants.
